The Story Begins

In September 1996, The Nativity School officially opened its doors, welcoming an inaugural class of 88 students ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Established as a central ministry of the Church of the Nativity, the school was founded to provide a premier Catholic education to families in Rancho Santa Fe and the surrounding North County San Diego area. This foundational year set the stage for decades of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and the vibrant community spirit that remains the hallmark of our “Stars” today.

Academic Enhancements

Following a successful inaugural year, The Nativity School quickly moved to fulfill its vision of providing a comprehensive K-8 Catholic education. In the Fall of 1997, the school expanded its curriculum to include 7th grade, followed by the addition of the 8th grade in 1998. This strategic growth allowed our first cohorts to complete their middle school journey on campus, solidifying our reputation as a premier preparatory school in Rancho Santa Fe. By establishing a full elementary and middle school program, we ensured that our students graduated with a strong foundation in faith, leadership, and academic rigor, ready to excel in the region’s top high schools.

  • A dedicated science lab and fine arts room to foster hands-on learning and creative expression.
  • A spacious conference room, commercial-grade kitchen, and administrative office space to support school operations and community events.
  • Fully equipped locker rooms for both boys and girls to support our physical education and sports programs.
Today, the Holy Family Activity Center serves as a vibrant hub for school, parish, and diocesan events, bringing our community together for everything from daily recreation to formal celebrations.

Prayerful Spaces

In the Fall of 2011, The Nativity School further enriched its campus atmosphere with the formal dedication of two sacred landmarks: the St. Francis of Assisi statue and the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto.

These prayerful spaces were established to provide students, faculty, and the parish community with quiet areas for reflection, prayer, and connection to their faith. The addition of these beautiful installations serves as a daily reminder of the school’s commitment to fostering a spiritually grounded environment amidst its natural, serene surroundings.

Facility Enhancements

The Nativity School prioritized the well-being of its community by implementing significant facility enhancements focused on security.

To ensure a protected and monitored environment for all students and staff, the school installed a comprehensive security gate and a network of high-definition cameras across the grounds. These upgrades provide enhanced campus safety and peace of mind, allowing the school to maintain its focus on academic and spiritual growth within a secure, gated setting.

New Programming

In the Fall of 2020, The Nativity School expanded its early childhood offerings by officially launching the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.

Designed as a vital bridge year between preschool and Kindergarten, the TK curriculum provides younger students with the gift of time to develop essential social, emotional, and academic skills. This program ensures that our youngest “Stars” enter Kindergarten with increased confidence and a solid foundational baseline, perfectly blending play-based exploration with the structured environment of primary education.
